Video game developer Jagex is well-known for its huge RS Gold series, but the majority of players may not know that the studio has been expanding its offerings to include publishing, and even tabletop gaming.
Jagex recently announced that it had signed a deal with indie game developer Outlier Games to publish the studio's inaugural game, the spaceship management game This Means Warp. The game will release on PC through Steam Early Access on March 17.
Created with replayability and multiplayer in mind, this Means Warp encourages players to collaborate and think strategically in chaotic, combative space battles in real time, and employ shrewd strategies to steer their ships through an incredibly hostile, procedurally-generated universe.
Taking inspiration from roguelikes like FTL and party games like Overcooked, This Means Warp sees players control crew members on board an aircraft, who are in charge of various systems, targeting weapons and conducting repairs, and ultimately making a plan for the dangerous spacevoid.
For more information about Jagex's publishing of This Means Warp, we reached out to Outlier Games' founders Paul Froggatt and Matt Rathbun and Lead Product Management for Jagex Robert Fox-Galassi for their thoughts on the new partnership.
Like many independent developers, our beginnings in the games business was through tinkering with game concepts and code over a long period of time before finally creating something playable!
I have 10 years' working experience at Google before deciding to move into gaming full-time. Matt's work spans the construction of Hollywood computer systems for film sets, as well as a stint in South Korean esports and mobile game development. We're so excited to share the progress we've made using This Means Warp.
A variety of video games have given an ambitious developer the idea to create their own. It's not often that you'll see an original idea taken up by the firm that developed the original game with Buy RuneScape Gold.
