This is an interesting time in history, a time when so many things that used to be fixtures of daily life are facing inevitable extinction. The oldest generation still living is the only generation keeping certain industries afloat, especially newspapers, cable TV, magazines and paper books. CDs and other physical media for storing entertainment aren't far behind, the generation after the current oldest one being the deathknell of those industries.
So, what fate awaits various watches vendors, any given Swiss Watch Factory or ladies watch manufacturers out there? Are they destined to go the way of the dinosaur too? Well, I can't predict the far-flung future any more accurately than anyone else, so I can't speak for 100 years from now. However, they aren't going anywhere in our lifetimes, and I'm here to explain exactly why that is.
Now, first of all, not everybody needs a luxury timepiece from a Swiss watch factory, and most Watches Vendors out there know this. However, for professionals who need to worry about image, or ladies who need to worry about conveying a certain appearance when going about their daily lives, a luxury watch can actually go a long way. For the rest of us, just glancing at our computer or phone and getting a somewhat accurate estimate of what time it is will suffice.
That's the thing, though. Computers, phones, tablets and even digital wristwatches are seldom really that accurate. Just because it uses a microchip does not mean it is infallible. How many times has a Windows update required you to fix your clock because it forgets the time zone, or dials the clock back by 12 hours? I rest my case, your honor!
Another problem with phones, constantly having to pull them out and wake them up to look at the time is inconvenient, and distracting. If you are always on the go, always needing to know the time, this isn't going to work out well for you, and is going to drain your phone pretty fast.
Thus far, we've avoided the elephant in the room that is the absurd concept of the smart watch. Something like this has been a holy grail of science fiction for several decades, but even back in the old days, when I read of these devices being a thing, I doubted their practicality. How useful is a tiny little screen like that? Not very, it turns out. Unless you are an athlete, or you suffer from medical conditions requiring you to monitor your biometrics on a regular basis, these watches bring no functionality that improves over just pulling your phone out or getting on your computer. Seriously, they are pretty useless to everyone else, and will fade from popularity aside from those niche markets probably before this decade is up. Most people are beginning to realize just how pointless smart watch is really are. They are also just as inaccurate as your phone or computer most of the time.
Conversely, a mechanical timepiece from various watches vendors, especially the precision offered by a Swiss watch factory, or most high-end Ladies Watch Manufacturers can provide you with at-a-glance, physically-precise time. Along with this, it will convey an image, and for the people that you care about your appearance, about punctuality and being dependable. In an unfair society where ladies have to worry about their image so much more than men on a superficial level, thus needing to accessorize to absurd amounts much to their chagrin, such a watch is a practical way to achieve a large chunk of this, and practicality is always fantastic.
