IWC's Commitment to the Environment

It's a fact: our environment is in constant decline. While many organizations and companies are doing nothing to prevent this, IWC Schaffhausen and David de Rothschild, founder of Adventure Ecology, are doing everything they can to help the environment. Rothschild's organization, Plastiki Expedition, is currently being supported by IWC.

Starting this summer, Adventure Ecology, along with sailors and scientists, will be making a 10,000 mile trip from San Francisco to Sydney. They'll be traveling on a 60 foot catamaran that's made from recycled waste products and plastic bottles. The purpose of this voyage is to draw attention to the knowledge that waste can be a valuable and usable resource.

With IWC's support Rothschild hopes to increase worldwide awareness of what will happen because of humanity's irresponsible behavior, hopefully increasing consciousness and action from people. As Rothschild said, "Saving our planet is going to be one of the century's greatest and most challenging adventures."

IWC is now releasing an Adventure Ecology limited edition of its Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth watch to celebrate the group's latest journey. The stainless steel watch can take the most extreme conditions and has passed over thirty tests, including surviving temperatues between 20 and 70 degrees C, humidity levels of 95%, corrosion tests and shock tests. Each watch has also passed water resistance tests up to 12 bar for each watch, along with salt, chlorine and water solution tests. These watches are so durable they can take anything, including the 10,000 mile voyage Adventure Ecology is about to embark on this summer.

The watch also features a newly designed automatic 80110 calibre movement with a shock absorbing system and a Pellaton winding device. The inner case can resist high level magnetic fields, making the watch very sturdy and long-lasting.

You can see the inspiration for the watch in its design: a blue dial and orange markers. There's also an Adventure Ecology logo on the back. The packaging for the watch also helps show consumers the right way to go with environmentally friendly materials.
