Now, you have to find a triangular rock with some sort of circular symbol (i.e. it looks a bit like a turtle). From the area with the first chest, head back down to the beach. There's a small cove between where your boat is docked and where several NPCs are camped. You should notice the peculiar rock in this location.

 

The beam of light should then appear, which would allow you to Skull and Bones Items dig for the buried treasure. Once you've opened it, you'll receive your rewards. You may then return to John Scurlock back at Sainte-Anne for the next segment of the main quest.
